We are building on solid foundations here at The Customs House. We have delivered a stunning range of arts and cultural activities in recent years with the highest quality organisations and artists in activities with many opportunities for schools and communities to engage with and shape programmes, a partnership approach. This has enabled The Customs House to build a sustainable legacy of lasting meaningful cross sector partnerships, networks and resources that support ‘our joined’ up practice.
The projects you see here provide a flavour of the work that we do at The Customs House, we are able tailor-make activities to suit your specific needs, targets and interests too, where possible and appropriate. So, do get in touch whether you are a school or community group, we are keen to offer creative and cultural activities to all.
Forty one schools took part in the Creative Partnerships programme across North and South Tyneside each year up until the end of the 2011 academic year when the programme closed. Creative Partnerships brought together creative practitioners, teachers and pupils in developing a creative approach to learning and teaching and The Customs House continues to build on the legacy of Creative Partnerships.

Arts in Schools
Arts in Schools is a programme of activity for children and young people, working with a range of schools and settings across the boroughs of North and South Tyneside. Arts in Schools creates art-form specific projects to enable children, young people and their teachers opportunities to engage with an art-form, gain accreditation when possible, and to increase confidence and motivation, which has a direct and positive impact on their experience as learners. Arts in Schools encourages children and young people to try new art forms, facilitates individual opportunities through Arts Award and supports a life-long, meaningful engagement with the arts and with The Customs House.

Building and continuing on our collaborative partnership with schools, North Tyneside Council, South Tyneside Council, Dance City and the North East Youth Dance Network we are keen to take dance up a level across North & South Tyneside and to play a part of that in the region. The success of projects with New Art Club and Random Dance and the positive impacts that they have on young people and developing audiences for this work shows that there is a need for further development of sustainable opportunities for young people to take part in dance.
We can support schools to find dance artists, develop dance provision within your setting and advise on opportunities for professional development, accreditation through Arts Award, performance opportunities and networks. For further information please contact Emma Horsman, email@example.com or 0191 427 8197.
The Gallery presents an exciting and diverse changing programme of around seven exhibitions a year by regional, national and international artists. Particular support is given to regional and newly emerging artists through exhibitions in our non-formal gallery spaces as well as through artist residencies. Through Gallery Education we deliver at least one large scale community project a year, which results in a formal exhibition produced by the community. These projects are usually theme based and led by regional artists. We are passionate about engaging with and inspiring the community, whether it’s targeted audiences or the general public.
Our Gallery Education Programme is increasing its cultural offer to bring regular creative arts activities for people of all ages and abilities. These include specialist courses for children, young people and adult learners. Keep a look out for the new Gallery Education Programme in our Events Section. We also have a wide selection of art work, craft and jewellery produced by regional artists and craft-makers available for sale throughout the year too, prices start from just £2
